75 Years Ago Today In 1943 - The King Cole Trio record the titles "Solid Potato Salad", "I Know That You Know", "Slender, Tender And Tall", "Straighten Up And Fly Right", and "Honeysuckle Rose" as electronic transcriptions at NBC Radio City's studios in Hollywood, California for the Armed Forces Radio Service which will issue all the songs on the transcription disc Personal Album 227.
1947 - The Benny Goodman Sextet (Benny Goodman on clarinet, Red Norvo on xylophone, Mel Powell on piano, Al Hendrickson on guitar, Harry Babasin on bass, and Louis Bellson on drums) record the titles "Hi 'Ya Sophia" and, with vocals by Al Hendrickson, "Baby Have You Got A Little Love To Spare" in Radio Recorders' studios at 932 North Western Avenue in Hollywood, California. Capitol Records will issue both titles together as a single (Capitol 462).
1952 - Lee Gillette overdubs drums onto Tex Ritter's title "High Noon" which was recorded on May 14, 1957 and additional drum overdubs recorded on August 1, 1957. Capitol Records will issue the final mix of the title when it re-releases the single (Capitol 2120) with "Go On! Get Out" (recorded February 25, 1952) on the flipside.
70 Years Ago Today In 1948 - Capitol Records purchased the masters for Mark Warnow and His Orchestra's titles "Sound Off Chant", "Stars And Stripes Forever", "El Capitan", and "Hail! America" and would issue all the titles in Warnow and the orchestra's album "Sound Off" (CB-111).
1952 - Vocalist Skeets McDonald, with Harold Glenn Hensley on fiddle, Billy Liebert on piano, Ivy "Jimmy" Bryant and Billy Strange on guitar, Wesley "Speedy" West on steel guitar, Herman "Herman The Hermit" Snyder on bass, and Roy Harte on drums, records the titles "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes", and "A Losing Hand" in Capitol Records' studios at 5515 Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, California between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Capitol Records will issue "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes" as a single (Capitol 2216) with "Big Family Trouble" (recorded January 14, 1952) on the flipside and "A Losing Hand" as a single (Capitol 3117) with "You're Too Late" (recorded January 11, 1955) on the flipside.
