1942 - It's a Monday and Capitol Records' sixth ever release includes just one single, but what a single! It is Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra's "Trav'lin' Light" with vocals by Lady Day (Billie Holiday), featuring Skip Layton on saxophone, with "You Were Never Lovelier" with vocals by trumpeter Larry Neil on the flipside (Capitol 116).
65 Years Ago Today In 1953 - Vocalist Chuck Miller, with Dave Cavanaugh conducting the orchestra (lineup unlisted), records the titles "After All", "Three Days Out (Seven To Go)", "One By One (Count Your Blessings)", "Am I To Blame", and "The Pucker-Nut Tree" in Los Angeles, California. Capitol Records will issue "After All" and "The Pucker-Nut Tree" together as a single (Capitol 2700 on 10" shellac and F2700 on 7" vinyl), "One By One (Count Your Blessings)" and "Am I To Blame" together as a single (Capitol 2613), and has yet to issue "Three Days Out (Seven To Go)".
1957 - Nat "King" Cole's Capitol Records album "Love Is The Thing" is #5 on The Billboard magazine's Most Played By Jockeys chart and #11 on the magazine's Best Selling Pop Albums chart and his album "This Is Nat 'King' Cole" is #22 also on the magazine's Best Selling Pop Albums chart. Nat "King" Cole's Capitol Records single "Send For Me" is #8 on The Billboard magazine's R&B Best Sellers In Stores chart, #11 on the magazine's Most Played R&B By Jockeys chart, #14 on The Billboard magazine's Top 100 Sides and Cash Box magazine's Best Selling Singles charts, and #21 on The Billboard magazine's Best Sellers In Stores and Most Played By Disk Jockey's charts. Nat "King" Cole's Capitol Records single "With You On My Mind" is #47 and its flipside "(The Song Of) Raintree County" is #53 also on Cash Box magazine's Best Selling Singles chart. "Send For Me"'s flipside, "My Personal Possession" with The Four Knights, is #87 also on The Billboard magazine's Top 100 Sides chart.
60 Years Ago Today In 1958 - Vocalist Peggy Lee, with Jack Marshall's Music and The Evelyn Freeman Singers (lineups unlisted), records the titles "Light Of Love" and "Sweetheart" in The Capitol Tower Studios at 1750 North Vine Street in Hollywood, California. Capitol Records will issue both titles together as a single (Capitol F4071) and also on Lee's EP "Alright, Okay, You Win" (EAP-1-1213).
1962 - Dean Elliott and His Orchestra (lineup unlisted) recorded the titles "Where Or When", "And The Angels Sing", "Ramblin' Rose" and "The Very Thought Of You" in Los Angeles, California. Capitol Records will issue all the titles on Elliott's album "Heartstrings" (T/ST 1864).
1962 - Vocalists Charles Nelson Reilly and Robert Morse, with Elliot Lawrence directing the orchestra (lineup unlisted), record the titles "You're The Top", "The Game", and "Siberia" in New York City, New York. Capitol Records will issue all the titles on the duo's album "A Jolly Theatrical Season" (T/ST 1862).

1992 - Bunny Brunel on a 1956 Lavello upright bass made in Paris, France with Labella strings, a Rick Turner piezzo bridge pick-up and a Bartolini/Brunel magnetic pick-up, played through a Korg A5 and a Carvin amplifier, Mike Stern on guitar, Billy Childs on piano, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, begin sessions for their "Dedication" album at The Capitol Tower Studios in Hollywood, California with engineers Bernie Kirsh and Leslie N.Jones and executive producers Denis Lacharme and Antonie Olivier and record the titles "Fall", "Falling Grace", "Dolphin Dance", "Pinocchio", "Song For Bill & Eddie", "Stella By Starlight", "Pebble Beach", "Relaxin' At Camarillo", "Someday My Prince Will Come", and, with the addition of Chick Corea on piano, "Twelve Bars For Lieberstraum" which will be released on CD in France by Musidisc (500362).
1999 - Capitol Records releases The Beatles' remastered soundtrack album "Yellow Submarine" in the United States, one day after EMI had released it in the rest of the world.

1957 - The Crickets' Brunswick single "That'll Be The Day", with "I'm Looking For Someone To Love" on the flipside, is #1 on Billboard's Best Sellers In Stores chart
1959 - Bill Britten begins playing Bozo and a number of other characters on "The Bozo Show" on WPIX Channel 11 in New York City. He'll stay with the show until April 1964. Capitol Records' VP of Children's Records, Alan Livingston, created Bozo in 1946.
1999 - Capitol Jazz, a subsidiary of Blue Note Records, releases The Benny Goodman Trio's compilation album "The Complete Capitol Trios" on CD. Blue Note Records is owned by Capitol Records.
1999 - Blue Note Records releases the 2 CD RVG edition of Sonny Rollins' album "A Night At The Village Vanguard". Blue Note's catalog is currently owned by Capitol Records.
