1925 - Hank Thompson, a singer, guitarist, harmonica player, a Capitol Records (1947-1965) solo artist and leader of Hank Thompson and The Brazos Valley Boys, and elected to the Country Music Hall Of Fame in 1989, is born Henry William Thompson in Waco, Texas.
1942 - Al Jardine, singer, songwriter, rhythm guitarist, and founding member of the Capitol Records group The Beach Boys, is born Alan Charles Jardine in Lima, Ohio.
70 Years Ago Today In 1948 - Don Brewer, drummer and the lead vocalist of the Capitol Records band Grand Funk Railroad, is born in Swartz Creek, Michigan

1952 - Trumpet player Ray Anthony and His Orchestra (Bruce Brukert, Dean Hinkle, Knobby Lee, and Jack Laubach also on trumpets, Keith Butterfield, Walter Shields, Ken Trimble, and Dick Reynolds on trombones, Earl Bergman and Jim Schneider on clarinets and alto saxophones, Buddy Wise, Billy Usselton, and Maxwell Davis on tenor saxophones, Leo Anthony on alto and baritone saxophones, Fred Savarise on piano, Vince Terri on guitar, Billy Cronk on bass, and Archie Freeman on drums) record the titles "Idaho", "Blow, Man, Blow" with vocals by Tommy Mercer and, without Maxwell Davis on tenor saxophone and with vocals by Tommy Mercer and Marcie Miller, "The Bunny Hop" in Los Angeles, California. Capitol Records will issue "Idaho" as a single (Capitol 2293) with "People In Love" (recorded September 2, 1952) on the flipside and "Blow, Man, Blow" and "The Bunny Hop" together as a single (Capitol 2251).
1952 - Guitarist Merle Travis, with Dale Warren on bass, records the titles "I'll See You In My Dreams" and "Cannon Ball Rag" in Capitol Records' studios at 5515 Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, California between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Capitol Records will issue both titles together as a single (Capitol 2245).
1957 - During two sessions held this day in New York City, New York, bandleader Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians (lineup unlisted) record the titles "Medley #1, Part 1: Stars Fell In Alabama/Stormy Weather/Home/Sweet Lorraine/Take Me In Your Arms/Once In A While/I Cried For You" at the first session and "Medley #2, Part 2: I Can't Give You Anything But Love/Red Roses For A Blue Lady/Sophisticated Lady/Hands Across The Table/I Don't Stand A Ghost Of A Chance with You" at the second session. Capitol Records will issue both titles on Lombardo's album "The Sweetest Medleys This Side Of Heaven" (T/DT 1947)
1957 - Pianist Leonard Pennario has a rehearsal session, with Erich Leinsdorf conducting The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra (lineup unlisted), of Tchaikovsky's "Piano Concerto N° 1" and Grieg's "Piano Concerto In A Minor" in Los Angeles, California for a recording session to be held the next day, September 4, 1957, for Capitol Records.
50 Years Ago Today In 1968 - Al Jardine, on his 26th birthday, and the rest of The Beach Boys, laid down the basic tracks for "We're Together Again" in Los Angeles, California. Even after overdubs were recorded on September 5 and 6, 1968, the song will remain unissued until Capitol Records first releases it as a bonus track on the double album CD "Friends/20-20" (7-93697-2).
50 Years Ago Today In 1968 - Ringo Starr rejoins The Beatles after quitting during sessions for their album "The Beatles" (aka "The White Album") and finds his drum kit decked out in flowers by Mal Evans and the instigation of George Harrison. Ringo didn't record anything at the studio that day but George spent the entire day recording a backwards guitar solo for "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" which was never used.
1982 - Capitol Records registers the masters for McFadden & Whitehead's titles "One More Time", "Without You", "Tired Of Your Lies", "Are You Lonely", "Not With Me", "Movin' On", "Everything I Do", "Trying To Get Back (To The Love I Lost), "Riding The Crest", and "The Best Of Me" in Los Angeles, California and will issue all the titles on the duo's album "Movin' On" (ST-12251), "Are You Lonely" and "Riding The Crest" together as a single, and an edited version of "One More Time" and "The Best Of Me" together as a single (Capitol 5176).
1982 - Pages (lineup unlisted) record the title "Once In Your Life" in Los Angeles, California for Capitol Records which has yet to issue the title.
1991 - Capitol Records releases The Smithereens album "Blow Up"
1996 - Capitol Records releases Eric Johnson's album "Venus Isle"
1996 - Capitol Records releases Frank Sinatra's 4 CD compilation set "The Complete Capitol Singles Collection"
1996 - Capitol Records releases the compilation CD "Christmas Cocktails" as part of its "Ultra Lounge" series

ON THIS DAY NOT QUITE IN CAPITOL RECORDS HISTORY
2006 - Los Angeles radio station KLSX pulls the plug on its last music show, "Breakfast With The Beatles", after 23 years on the air. The show was founded by Deirdre O'Donoghue and hosted by her until her death in 2001 and is currently hosted by Chris Carter. The show would later return to the air in November 2006 and currently airs on Sundays from 9AM to Noon on station KLOS 95.5.
